Seeing the Opposition
With them is the arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord of Hosts who will fight for us …
So, you’ve thought things had been going pretty well lately. But there’s a funny thing about success; there’s always someone else that’s not too happy about it! Friend, has opposition come against you, wanting to snuff you out? It might come in the form of a physical conflict, or it may be part of a spiritual battle, but suddenly you’re feeling confronted and surrounded.
Let me tell you about a well-seasoned Prophet named Elisha, and his young assistant. Because of Elisha’s ability to reveal the enemy’s tactics to the King he himself became an expedient target for attack. One morning, when the Prophet’s assistant woke early, there was an army, surrounding their city. Terrified, he ran to the Prophet, and shrieked, “Look! What shall we do?” But the Prophet was unmoved, and answered, “Don’t fear! Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” Then, Elisha prayed, “Lord, open his eyes that he may see.” When the Lord opened the young man’s eyes, he saw the mountainside full of fiery legions all around Elisha.
Friend, what if you’re surrounded by enemies on every side? Does it matter? For God gives His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. An army may surround you, but they are surrounded by the armies of the Lord of Hosts. Friend, you were doing well, so the enemy comes to do everything he can to distract you and divert you. But the enemy’s attack itself is confirmation that you are walking in God’s will. And He will make all things work together for your good because you love Him and are called to His purpose. Elisha prayed another prayer; to strike his enemies with blindness; then he led them to the city of the King. Elisha prayed again that their eyes would see and then they saw the king’s guard surrounding them. Friend, you need to understand that the attack also reveals the way to overcome the overwhelming odds pitted against you. Don’t fear the attack; God’s help is greater than what comes against you.
