A New Day Has Come
Believe this: a new day is coming—in fact, it’s already here—when the importance will not be placed on the time and place of worship but on the truthful hearts of worshipers.
Reading the first chapter of the Book of Proverbs, the very first wise saying you’ll encounter is, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” In our current English vernacular, this proverb lends support to a false view of God as being distant, detached, and disapproving. But King Solomon, the author of Proverbs received instruction from his father David, and their lives demonstrate that neither was fearful of God. Rather, as the meaning was once understood, they held God in devotional awe and reverence. It was in their heart to build a glorious temple as a home for the manifest presence of the Lord. David wrote, “But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.” Psalm 5:7
For a time, God was pleased that men would endeavor to seek Him in the places they sanctified unto Him. Nevertheless, God does not dwell in buildings made by the hands of men. Jesus came to reveal God as your Father and to lead you into genuine fellowship with Him. In his preaching, the Apostle Paul declared, “God, who made the world and everything in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands.” Acts 17:24
As Jesus sat by a well, he had a conversation with a Samaritan woman about the proper place for worship. Her people practiced their traditions and Jesus’ people practiced theirs. This alienated woman knew how divisive people could be, and she wondered who had the right approach to worship. To this victimized outcast, Jesus first proclaimed that a pivotal point in history had arrived. The time has now come for everyone to know God as Father and to worship Him in truthfulness. The importance is not on where you worship, for truly, the Father is Spirit and is seeking spiritual worshippers. Where do you worship the Father? In your heart! How can you worship Him in the Spirit as He requires? Jesus told the woman that if she knew the gift of God, she would have asked him for living water. That Living Water; the gift of God, is the Holy Spirit! Have you asked Jesus for this thirst-quenching gift? His presence in you will become a satisfying wellspring of eternal life.
