How Did He Make You See

So he went and washed, and came back seeing.

“Oh, why did this happen to me?” Friend, that’s a question as old as mankind! And yet we repeat that question so often you would think there wasn’t an answer, but there is! One day, Jesus’ disciples walked past a blind man.  Now, they thought they had figured out why bad things happen to good people, but they weren’t too clear on some of the particulars, so they asked Jesus to clarify. “Teacher, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” Bottom line; Jesus didn’t agree with either reason.

His response presented quite a surprise to them; “but that the works of God should be revealed in him,” and proceeded to use the occasion as a kind of object lesson. He spat on the ground, made some mud, and anointed the eyes of the blind man with it. Then He told the blind man, “go and wash in the pool of Siloam.” Now there are two things to bring attention to about this command; first, the name Siloam means ‘sent’, and secondly, to get to the pool the blind man had to travel downhill along narrow streets. Not an easy journey and quite conspicuous, not only because he was blind, but because of the mud on his eyes.

To Jesus, it’s the result that’s important. “He went and washed, and came back seeing!” Now, instead of wondering what you did wrong, or harboring a guilty feeling about something you did or did not do, listen to the command of the Great Healer, “go, and wash.” Just take your problems to the Lord in prayer. It may be a difficult endeavor if you’re unfamiliar with the narrow way. It may be uncomfortable with the mud on your face. But when you wash in the water of His Word your conscience will be cleansed. You’re not in a dilemma without a purpose; there’s ‘Glory in Your Story’! When you receive your miracle, you’ll have a testimony like that blind man; “one thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see.”
